TOWSLEY CANYON HIKE #3 - 12/10/08

Once again I went for a hike in the very interesting area of Towsley Canyon. The reason I say this canyon is "interesting" is because it contains rare rock striations, faults and a tar pit! As you walk up the trail, you start to smell oil. There are oil fields deep under this canyon, but as you start to come near the faults and cliffs, you will find a small tar pit where you can see the oil bubbling up to the surface from deep under the earth.

  2. Towsley Canyon is off Interstate 5 in the Santa Clarita Valley. You get off at Calgrove. It's on the west side of the freeway. You can Google Map it.
If you look throu all of my blogs, there are directions to the trail heads on some of them and there is one for Towsley.
