The trail starts out at the back of the park near the dog park and starts out pretty steep. Since it was warm the day we did this hike, we took our time climbing up the trail and stopped a few times to catch our breath.
When we got to the top of the hill, there was this nice shaded spot (below).
You cannot got to the left as there are "No Trespassing" signs there for the Castaic Lake Water Agency, so we went to the right to head up to the water tank.
The view from near the water tank was 360 degrees. The photo below is looking to the southeast.
The following photo is looking west.
The next photo is looking north.
The photo below is looking down on the park and to the east.
This hike is only about 1.64 miles. It is somewhat steep at the beginning but more level once you reach the top of the ridge. It takes about 45 minutes up and back.
What a beauty of a trail to hike Kay, with your hiking companion, Hiker. She's gorgeous and it's so obvious you love hiking together. I loved the 360 view, especially to the north. Thanks always, for taking me places I would, otherwise, never have the opportunity to see. I'm pretty much grounded during our cold spells, another minus -30F windchill this weekend~~Grrrr. I will be hibernating with the bears for another month or three. You do inspire me to carry-on, girl! My hikes have been within the confines of the house, up the stairs, down the hall, back again, thru the family room to the kitchen around the dining table, back through the living room and here we go again....at least the stairs make it a workout. phew, tired and going to bed...loved hiking with you.

It does look steep on your map. Don't think I'd make it (yet). Working on it though. The photos are awesome. Quite the view!
ReplyDeleteWow! That view would make the whole thing SO worth it!! Fabulous photos!!
ReplyDeleteThe weather here in PA has not hiking weather but as soon as Spring hits, we plan on hiking a lot with our new Boxer.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a hike in 85 degree weather.. but the views from the top are spectacular, Kay.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
